Mid-Term Elections
The 2006 primary elections was a turning point this year for the donkeys and the elephants, or in other words it was a turning point for the good of the government. A great start to a new era in the White House. The Democrats are now leads the house in seats giving them a big advantage over the Republicans and also makes them the leaders of the house. The Democrats have also taken back seats in the house making it a 51 to 49 victory. This should mean a lot of things for the United States and also the war in Iraq. Gas prices should decrease, the troops in Iraq should be home soon as well. I don’t think republicans are bad I just think they are not doing a good job right now with the events that’s been happening. I think they could have handled it better than they did.
Since the elections, the news on democrats winning majority, has spread around the world. Also the resignation of the Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has been a top subject around the country. The government finally dismissed him after years of frustration and scandals. People in other countries, China, think that Rumsfeld wasn’t the problem, but that bush himself should be dismissed, mainly because of his miscalculation of the war in Iraq. They also believe that democrats will make things that the republicans messed up, a lot better than before. A paper in France stated that, believed that Bush went to far, way too far, on the war on terrorism. They believe now since the elections that “if Americans are turning to normal into normal, reasonable, moderate, constructive, team players and really nice people, what remains for us to hate?†from 24 heures a paper on France.
Since George W. Bush will be gone in a couple of years they believe things will be the same. France thinks democrats have no new ideas for the presidency and for the war on terror. A paper in Iran says that the elections bring promise to a better world. In reality no one really excepted the democrats to take the polls like they did. They feel like democrats believe that military power is gained on diplomacy, as republicans focus exclusively on power. Since 9/11, the military has been the backup for republicans, using them for every incident that happens in the world. Just about all of the papers from different countries agree that the democrats victory over the republicans is as positive. Most believe the democrats will put end to a lot of stress felt by, not just America, but the whole world and put an end to the war in Iraq, some think that the democrats will win the next presidential election but still won’t really know what to change and what not to change. Some believe that since bush is gone that means there country will benefit from it, Iran think they will most because they think they have been such a target for the white house and now they think since bush is leaving it will let up. And maybe the rest of the world can breathe easier now that bush is beginning to be defeated, maybe now things in the world can be restored to some degree.
My conclusion to all of this is that all in all the election was a success from my point of view and also from the rest of the world, mainly because everybody, seems like that, wants Bush out of the white house as fast as possible and any sign of that is good news to the people and other countries. The things that’s happen in a span of 6 years has been crucial to the U.S., especially to gas prices the cost of living and the many deaths that have occurred among Americans. The U.S. realizes, slowly, that we need a change and fast, even before the primary elections take place. If the White House can be taken from bush early then we as in the people have already won.
